Best long-blooming daylilies

By: Garden Gate staff
These marathon-blooming daylilies will give you three months of color.

Gardeners love daylilies because they produce loads of flowers with little care. Wouldn’t it be great if they also bloomed for months? Believe it or not, some do. Traditionally, the most reliable reblooming daylilies had small yellow or orange flowers that opened in midsummer—think ‘Stella de Oro’. But hybridizers have been expanding the range of color and size of flowers and plants. Doubles and fragrant blooms are available, too. Many of these long-bloomers start earlier in summer and last longer into fall. Here are seven of the best long-blooming (75 days or longer) daylilies.

‘Variety is the Spice'

This rebloomer flowers almost nonstop for 75 days.

Blooms 4-in. double coral-red flowers midsummer to fall Size 26 in. tall, 18 to 24 in. wide Cold-hardy USDA zones 4 to 8 Heat-tolerant AHS zones 12 to 1

'Matt's Gift'

Add a cheery yellow dash to any border with the nicely ruffled blooms of ‘Matt’s Gift’. A soft fragrance makes plants even nicer to have in the garden.

Blooms 7-in. bright lemon-yellow blooms mid- to late summer Size 36 in. tall, 18 to 24 in. wide Cold-hardy USDA zones 3 to 10 Heat-tolerant AHS zones 12 to 1

'Elegant Candy'

The bright blooms of ‘Elegant Candy’ hold their color well and have an added bonus of being strongly perfumed. The red eye and green throat, along with the heavily ruffled edges, add even more splash to the garden.

Blooms 4 1⁄4-in. pink blooms early to midsummer Size 25 in. tall, 18 to 24 in. wide Cold-hardy USDA zones 3 to 9 Heat-tolerant AHS zones 12 to 1
