Planning to introduce a zen vibe to your garden or indoor space? You can set up a bonsai tree and add elegance to your space. A few years back, it wasn’t possible for novices to set up a bonsai tree in their care this easily. Now, you can do so easily with the help of the best bonsai tree kit.

If you’re new, we suggest starting with a pine bonsai tree since those are the easiest to manage. Chances are, the kit you’ll purchase will have 3 to 5 types of seeds. Make sure there’s a seed for Japanese maple or pine bonsai. Following are some basic contents of a bonsai tree kit:

Seeds

Most kits will have anywhere between 3 to 5 different types of seeds. Some kits may have up to eight types of bonsai tree seeds. But this is where it gets tricky — you need to pick a kit that lists a few seeds from each type. Why? Because not all seeds will sprout and you need to keep your options open. Make sure you read the tree types carefully and look them up on the internet to make sure those are the ones you want.

Bonsai pruning shears

When it comes to bonsai, there are always going to be branches that won’t be used and need to be removed. There may also be branches emerging at incorrect angles so they’ll need to be shortened as well. That’s exactly where bonsai pruning shears come in handy.

Scissors

While you’ll need to use your particular pruning shears, at times you’ll just need to do things with your regular garden scissors. For instance, when you need to cut twigs, your pruning scissors won’t be appropriate. At times, the branches are thick and you should avoid risking your bonsai shears and use your regular garden shears instead.

Tweezers

Tweezers come in handy when you’re just staring at your tree and notice odd bushes or leaves and want to make minor adjustments.

Soil discs

Think of them as soil plates that are actually dehydrated but held together by a biodegradable fine mesh setting. Once you water them, the soil rehydrates itself and expands to create a nice, self-contained pot. Not everybody will need it but they can help you speed things up and keep it all neat.

Instruction manual

Every kit will have an instruction manual that’ll have detailed instructions to ensure that you are successful. This is perfect if you’re a novice since the manual will be your guide.

Other items

Other items may include a spray bottle, basic gardening tools, burlap pots, plant markers and a kit box to carry your items. Some kits may also have juniper and separate branch cutters so you don’t have to rely on any outside tools.

Final Words

Once you have the kit, don’t be afraid to start the process — go at it even if you’re inexperienced. The manual will be your best friend. If things still get confusing, remember that your solution is only a Google or YouTube search away.
