Homeowners don’t worry much about it, but a home’s foundation is an important part of home maintenance. It is necessary because every home needs to have a sturdy foundation. Over time, your home’s foundation can start to deteriorate or weaken. This can be due to many other factors such as poor drainage, tree roots, foundation settling, and many others.

Small problems with your home’s foundation can lead to major ones. It can cause costly home repairs, so it is important to make sure that you deal with such problems as early as possible. But how can you if your home’s foundation needs to be repaired? What are the signs you need to watch out for? Below are some of the signs that indicate that you need to have your foundation repaired:

Visible Cracks On Your Concrete

If you see any cracks on your outside or indoor walls, then it can be a sign that you need to have your foundation repaired. Make sure that you check the interior and exterior of your home regularly for any visible cracks that may be developing. Small cracks may not be an issue, but deep ones may mean that there are possible issues with your home’s structure. If you see deep cracks in your home, then make sure that you call a professional to assess your home right away.

On the other hand, even though hairline cracks on your window or other parts of your home are commonly not a big issue, make sure that you still monitor them as well. Check if these cracks start to widen or go deeper. Doors or windows that don’t open or close properly or malfunction can also indicate potential foundation problems. Also, watch out for tiles that are loose or the ones that can be sound hollow. This indicates that the foundation underground has dipped, and it means that there is already an uneven surface for your home.

Uneven Outdoor Area Such As Your Patio

Another sign that you may need foundation repair is an uneven patio or outside steps in your home. If the steps outside your home look uneven, then it may indicate problems with your foundation. Make sure you watch out for any tilting on your concrete panels as well.

Standing Water Outside Your Home

If you notice standing water on the outside of your home near the walls, then this may indicate problems with drainage. This is also the same for mildew growth near the bottom walls. If standing water isn’t properly absorbed by the soil of your home, then this can also indicate issues with the foundation.

Sloping Floors

Sloping floors also indicate problems with the foundation. Although incremental drops across the whole of your home of about an inch aren’t really a problem, big ones are signs that you may need to have your foundation repaired.

Wrinkling Posters and Wallpapers

Damage to your poster or wallpapers can also indicate problems with the foundation. Watch out for poster ripping or wrinkling. Considerable damages maybe because of the shifting floors or the cracking of walls in your home.

Gaps On Crown Molding And Ceiling

Visible gaps on your ceiling and crown moldings can also be a sign of foundation damage. These gaps mean that the foundation of your home is starting to set and that it can no longer carry the weight of your home.
