Get more of your favorite woody plants by taking softwood cuttings!

Keep in mind, however, that you can’t legally start plants that are patented without permission from the patent holder, even if you don’t intend to sell them. The letters PPAF, PVR or the term “patent pending” on the tag will let you know your plant’s status.

  • Bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla)
  • Clematis (Clematis spp. and hybrids)
  • Common lilac (Syringa vulgaris)
  • Fuchsia (Fuchsia spp. and hybrids)
  • Mockorange (Philadelphus spp. and hybrids)
  • Rhododendron (Rhododendron spp. and hybrids)
  • Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus)
  • St. John’s wort (Hypericum spp. and hybrids)
