This border, planted with the shortest plants in front and tallest in back, gives passersby a show — it’s easy to see each flower shape and colorful combo clearly. And ground covers billowing along the edge connect the border to the path without creating a tripping hazard.

Easy-care plants
Many of these plants grow quickly, forming large mounds in a year or two. But don’t worry if you notice crowding — these perennials are all easy to divide.
A – ‘Summer Nights’ false sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides scabra) Perennial; golden yellow flowers summer through fall; full sun; 3 to 4 ft. tall, 2 to 3 ft. wide; cold-hardy in USDA zones 3 to 9, heat-tolerant in AHS zones 9 to 1
