Let more light in
Are your trees casting too much shade over the garden? Thinning or limbing up deciduous trees allows more light and moisture through a tree’s canopy.
To thin, carefully remove a few large branches from the canopy as you see in the illustration at far left.
To limb up, simply take off the lower branches so the canopy is higher, like you see at left. For safety, it’s probably best to hire a professional arborist to take on these tasks with a large tree.
