Brighten your night with the citron daylily

By: Garden Gate staff
Want to enjoy your garden at dusk? This daylily has stunning evening flowers!

A night-blooming daylily? It’s true! With slender yellow petals and a strong, lemony fragrance, this daylily’s blooms open in the evening and close by morning. Even in the dark, you won’t be able to miss the flowers, which can be up to 6 inches across.

Choose a spot with average soil and full sun, and deadhead spent flowers to keep the plant tidy. For the most flowers, divide once every three or four years in late summer, after it’s finished blooming. This way, the divisions will have plenty of time to establish a strong root system before the ground freezes.
