DIY garden lights

There’s an easy fix for shaded spots in the garden, where solar lights just don’t work very well. Just spray paint the exterior of an empty snack-size chip can any color you like and set a mini flashlight inside before replacing the original plastic lid. (Discount stores usually sell mini LED or halogen flashlights for a few dollars.)

How often the flashlights’ batteries need to be changed depends on how long the lights stay on at night. You can turn them on at dusk and go back out to switch them off just before bed or leave them until morning.
