Round and round

By: Garden Gate staff
Different shapes create different moods. We'll show you how rounded shapes can perk up a boring garden.

Round and round

Round shapes are cheerful and friendly, without the exclamation-point excitement of triangles or spikes. But that doesn’t mean they’re boring. Here marigolds, zinnias, a decorative orange sphere and even the pattern on the pillow make this garden feel fun, yet sophisticated.

Round shapes can flow into each other for a soothing effect or they can stand alone to make a bold statement. These flowers are closely planted into a smooth sweep of color.

The soft spikes of the grass in the background and the diagonal lines of the fence add a little contrast to keep the rounded shapes from being too overpowering.
