Invite your pansies back next spring!

Gardeners in warm climates are lucky to enjoy pansies all winter long. But those of us in colder zones hate to say goodbye to our beautiful pansies in fall. We don’t have to! Plant them now with your bulbs and enjoy them while they’re blooming. Then next spring you’ll see them again if you follow our simple tip!

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PANSIES When you plant, add 2 to 3 in. of organic mulch, such as shredded leaves or wood chips, around the base of the plants. This keeps soil temperatures even and prevents the freezing and thawing that heaves them out of the ground. After a hard frost, add another few inches of mulch, for a total of about 6 in. Come late winter, simply pull back the mulch to give the plants some breathing room. Several weeks later, you’ll have blooming pansies again!
