Galinsoga Galinsoga ciliata
IDENTIFICATION — This fast-growing, bushy weed, sometimes called quick weed, reaches 6 to 20 in. tall. Look closely and you’ll see its stems and leaves are covered with fine white hairs. The yellow button flowers, with five very short white petals, open at the ends and leaf nodes of the stem from early summer to fall.
FAVORITE CONDITIONS — You’ll most often see this annual weed growing in full sun to part shade in cultivated areas that have rich, slightly acid soil.
CONTROL — Galinsoga spreads by seeds, but its fibrous roots make it easy to control. Hand pull or hoe it before it sets seeds.
