Make your own lavender sugar scrub
Lavender is one of the most versatile plants you can grow. It blooms for weeks in summer, is easy to care for and, of course, smells fantastic! The flowers, stems and foliage are loaded with oils that may occasionally waft through the garden on a warm breeze. One of the best things about growing your own lavender is the many ways you can use it. You can even use it to moisturize and exfoliate your skin! We have a great recipe for a lavender sugar scrub from Sunshine Lavender Farm. The recipe below will make one 8 oz. jar, but it is easily doubled or tripled if you want to make more than one jar. Materials for homemade lavender sugar scrub
- 8 oz. glass jar with lid
- ⅔ cup of turbinado or organic cane sugar
- 2 tablespoons of lavender florets
- About 2 tablespoons of grapeseed oil or extra virgin olive oil
Step 1: Remove the florets
Begin with either fresh or dry stems of lavender and remove the florets with your hands or kitchen shears. Crush, grind or leave florets whole. We will need two tablespoons for this recipe, but feel free to add more if you want a strong lavender scent.
Step 2: Combine the lavender & sugar
Next, measure out ⅔ cup of sugar, pour it into a bowl and stir in the lavender florets.

Step 3: Stir in the oil
Grapeseed oil is the most like the natural oils found in our skin, but any oil, such as olive oil, will work fine. Add oil and stir between each tablespoon.
Step 4: Get the right consistency
The sugar will absorb the oil. You'll will know you have the right amount when it adheres to your skin without sliding off. If the oil begins to float on top, you may have added too much.
Step 5: Store & use your lavender sugar scrub
Store the lavender sugar scrub in an 8 oz. glass jar. It will last for about a year, especially if you store it in a refrigerator. Moisturize and exfoliate your hands and face by rubbing it on and letting it sit for about a minute. Then rinse off with water.
Step 6: The finishing touch
Tie a label around the jar for an extra touch of thoughtfulness. Make enough for yourself and to give away; it makes a great gift!
