The perfect fountain
Fountains big and small have a similar setup. Here are some tips to help make your project easier.
- When it comes to the basin, bigger is better to cut down on water loss from splashing and avoid having to add water frequently.
- A 1- to 2-in. layer of sand in the bottom of the basin hole makes it easy to get everything level. That keeps the container stable and prevents water from overflowing on one side.
- Make sure the basin has a grate on top to keep debris out of the pump and that the grate has an opening so you have easy access to the pump.
- Pumps vary in how far they can pump water so look for one that has a “head” or “lift” rating that is higher than the height of your container.
