Upcycled bird feeder

Instead of lining and filling an old wire hanging basket, simply set in a terra-cotta saucer, sprinkle birdseed onto the surface and hang it from a tree branch to create the feeder you see at left.

Whether your saucer sits lower in the hanging basket or is closer to its rim, birds, like this white-breasted nuthatch, will still visit. A dinner or salad plate would work, too, depending on the diameter of your hanging basket.
