Design a perfect path
Give visitors a safe, beautiful way to travel through your yard — it’s easy with a well-planned path! And the one leading to your front door is one of the most important paths there is. Let’s take a look at what makes this one such a welcoming walkway.
Ideally, guests should feel safe and comfortable as they approach, and that’s best achieved with a broad, level surface. A front path that’s 4 to 5 feet wide gives two people plenty of room to walk side by side comfortably.
Widen the path a few more feet where it meets the front steps as a subtle signal to visitors that they’ve reached their destination.

Choose the right material
The materials you use make a difference in how easy it is to travel your path and help create its style, too. Brick, flagstone and concrete are some of the most common front path choices. They’re easier to walk on than poorly spaced steppers, gravel or mulch.
You’ll heighten curb appeal and create a pulled-together look in the front yard by choosing a material for the path that reflects the style of your home, like the repeated brick here.

Give it a shape
Many front walkways are straight — a no-nonsense approach that gets you to the front door right away. This works well especially for symmetrical or formal-looking homes.
But a more casual style of home looks best with a path that has a slight curve or two. Curves create interest in the design and slow visitors down to enjoy the view along the way!
