Successful repetition
When you repeat a color, such as chartreuse, change up plant size and texture to keep things interesting.
Here, this big-leafed ‘Sum and Substance’ hosta (Hosta spp. and hybrids) looks even more interesting next to the contrasting narrow foliage of ‘All Gold’ hakonechloa (Hakonechloa macra).

Long-lasting color
Aqua adds a cool touch here. Even though you won’t usually find flowers in aqua, there are plenty of choices when it comes to décor and hardscaping.
Keep bold colors from fading in the sun by using a good-quality exterior paint that’s labeled as “colorfast.” It has a formula that will keep its intensity longer when exposed to the elements. Add an acrylic finish coat for extra protection.
