A private retreat
All you need is a corner of your yard to create an escape! Here, rustic posts give the same feel you’d have on a quiet walk through the woods. And a vine-covered roof casts shade similar to a high-trimmed tree.
Plants are grouped to look as if they’ve spread naturally, creating drifts. A dogwood with colorful stems is the winter highlight. To get the most colorful branches, cut everything back to 6 to 12 in. each spring. You may spot a hummingbird or two visiting the late-blooming coral bells. Their creamy flowers lean, but don’t stake them. Let them gently sway in the breeze — it’s part of the natural charm of this garden!
