Soaker hose how-to
A soaker hose is one of the easiest and best ways to make sure your plants are getting enough moisture, especially during dry, hot summer weather. Just follow these simple steps for a no-fail set up.
Bury the hose under 2 in. of mulch. Here, water arrives directly at plants’ roots with less evaporation.
Don’t set a timer for automatic start. You run the risk of watering too frequently. Instead, aim for two deep soakings per week. Time how long it takes for water to penetrate the soil at least 6 in. deep. (Check saturation by digging a hole with a marked trowel.) Set a timer for automatic shut off, and you’ll never overwater!
