Help containers thrive!

By: Garden Gate staff
What kind of fertilizer when? Never wonder how much to feed your containers again!

Help containers thrive!

You added slow-release fertilizer when you planted your containers at the beginning of the season. Now what? Here’s how to keep pots well-fed (and looking their best!) through the end of fall. Just remember to stop feeding after a hard freeze or when you move plants inside to overwinter.

WHEN DAYTIME TEMPS ARE IN THE 70s and 80s Start using a Miracle-Gro-type water-soluble fertilizer once a week. Be sure to wet the soil before feeding or the fertilizer might wash right through the bottom of the pot.

END OF JULY TO FALL Continue with the same schedule but switch every other feeding to a water-soluble bloom booster fertilizer — look for a formula with a high phosphorus level (like 10-52-10).
