Get even more color
Aren’t flowers enough color for any garden? Maybe not. There aren’t many plants that bloom continuously for months, so there’s always some downtime in beds and borders. And in a small garden, there’s not always room to keep your garden full of blazing color. Don’t despair — just reach for a paint can!
Colorful focal points Bright colors pop out of a garden, creating a focal point you can’t miss. This is a good way to add interest to a border in a slow season. Or maybe you need to draw the eye away from a view on the other side of the garden. Either way, these painted objects grab and hold attention!

Advancing color
Light colors appear to advance visually. This arbor and fence seem closer to you than they would if they were a dark color. This is a good way to make a large or long space feel cozier and more intimate.

Receding color
Since light colors advance, dark colors recede. This doorway appears bigger than it is, because the door is a darker blue than the pale teal-blue steps. You get the illusion of a little more room — always a bonus in a small space.
