Jewelweed Impatiens capensis

IDENTIFICATION — The summer flowers of 6-ft.-tall jewelweed range from clear yellow to red orange and open in clusters of one to three flowers each at the leaf axils. Leaves and stems are pale green and very fragile. Jewelweed is also called “touch-me-not” because seed capsules fling tiny seeds when you touch them.

FAVORITE CONDITIONS — You’ll find this annual weed in any spot in part shade to full sun with moist soil.

CONTROL — It’s easy to pull the plant or hoe it out in early to midsummer.
