Save your bulbs
Cut into a few bulbs while planting annuals? You may not have to get rid of them. As long as each piece has part of the basal plate (hardened stem tissue attached to the roots) and a growing point, it will sprout again.
In the chart at left, you’ll see what to save and what to compost. Even with a basal plate and growing point, a damaged bulb may take a year or two to recover and bloom.
