Cinnamon

Sometimes the remedy for what’s ailing your indoor plants is sitting in your own kitchen cupboard. For example, here are two great uses for cinnamon (besides your holiday baking!).

FUNGAL LEAF SPOT — Did you know that orchid growers use cinnamon to fight fungal leaf spot? Dip your fingertip into the cinnamon and rub it gently over the affected area as you see at right. Don’t use too much, though, as it can burn the leaves.

DAMPING OFF — Starting plants from seeds? You can also sprinkle cinnamon lightly over the surface of the potting mix to prevent damping off of all types of plant seedlings.
