Hot-colored geraniums and pinks in this basket grab your attention instantly. The deep-pink and lavender-pink are closely related to the purple colors of the calibrachoas and annual baby’s breath. And if those were the only colors in the container, the effect would be very sophisticated. But adding a splash of yellow calibrachoas (the color opposite purple on the color wheel) gives the whole combination a friendlier, more light-hearted look. Meanwhile, the fresh, deep green of the foliage provides a rich background color for all those bright flowers.
As with all containers, forget about the suggested spacing for plants. The plan shows you how tightly these plants are packed. That’s the best way to get a full, flowery look fast.
If you want to keep these plants looking and blooming their best all summer, give them weekly food and even moisture. To neaten up the calibrachoas and keep them compact, snip a few inches off the longer stems once a week. While you’re at it, deadhead the faded pinks and geraniums to encourage more blooms and to keep the planting looking fresh and gorgeous.
