Patriotic patio planter

By: Garden Gate staff
A fireworks show in the daytime? It’s true! We’ll show you how to celebrate the holiday with a festive red, white and blue container garden.

If you’re looking to decorate your garden with red, white and blue for the fourth of July, here’s an idea that will crackle and pop! To make this a stand-out container garden, stick to a monochromatic planting scheme. Bold red plants make a statement on their own, but when paired with a vibrant blue container, they start to get festive. Then add some height and really thrill with these allium “fireworks.” We’ll show you are secret for reviving these spent blooms in the quick video below.

To keep this planting looking good all season, cut back the petunia and verbena by a third to prevent them from developing a leggy, messy look. As zinnia flowers fade, snip them off to encourage more bloom. Scroll down for more information about the plants and to see a detailed planting plan.
